The Centre for Urban Transformation was previously known as the Consortium for Urban Transformation, and is committed to urban regeneration that is socially inclusive. It is currently being restructured to be a dedicated unit for research, education, advocacy and policy (REAP).

As inner cities seek to regenerate themselves, there is the danger that already vulnerable people might be further marginalized through renewal programmes that are not socially inclusive, that the policy environment is not adequately addressing issues of inner city homelessness and vulnerability, and that public processes are not truly participatory, due to lack of information or capacity within local communities, apathy amongst citizens, and a lack of ownership due to the transitional nature of many inner city communities.

The Centre for Urban Transformation is seeking to address this through

· offering local urban communities and programmes as a laboratory for study, research and dialogue

· facilitating capacity-building programmes for civil society to participate constructively in urban development and management processes

· facilitating advocacy and policy development programmes, and being a collective voice on issues affecting urban communities

· brokering of social investments

· strategic partnership development
